EWAN MOWAT

Ewan joined AC White in 2005, having practised law previously in Glasgow. He is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in employment law. He represents both employers and employees advising on all aspects of employment law including unfair dismissal, business transfers, discrimination and restrictive covenants.

Ewan’s approach is practical and commercial. He assists clients with the full spectrum of situations that can arise at work such as dealing with flexible working requests, advising on disciplinary and grievance procedures, handling redundancy exercises and business restructuring, negotiating settlement agreements and preparing written contracts and staff handbooks.

He appears at the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal, and has represented clients facing action by their regulator (such as The Scottish Social Services Council and The Nursing and Midwifery Council). He has also spoken on employment law issues at continuing professional development events for solicitors and HR professionals. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Prior to studying law, Ewan obtained an honours degree in modern languages from the University of London before living and working in Germany for three years. He is a fluent German speaker.

MARTINE WALKER

Martine grew up locally and graduated from Glasgow University in 1992. She returned to Ayrshire to undertake her traineeship and has always worked locally. She joined A C White in January 2007, becoming a partner two years later.

Martine is a busy civil court practitioner and can regularly be found at both Ayr and Kilmarnock Sheriff Courts. She specializes in all areas of family and child law and is a member of the Family Law Association. Martine is committed to bringing resolution to what can be a very emotive area of legal practice in a sensitive and practical manner.

When not working, Martine enjoys pottering about in her garden, rambling through the Scottish countryside and spending time with family and friends.

FIONA MACDONALD

Fiona joined AC White as a trainee solicitor in July 2008, having completed her law degree at Strathclyde University. She became a partner with the firm on 1st January 2019.

Fiona trained in all areas of general legal practice and found a particular interest in private client work. She now specialises in the administration of estates; the preparation of wills, including advice in relation to asset protection and inheritance tax planning and the preparation of continuing and welfare powers of attorney;

Fiona grew up in Ayrshire and prior to studying law, obtained an honours degree in Medical Biochemistry from Glasgow University. Fiona lives on a farm just outside of Ayr with her husband and their family. Outside of work Fiona enjoys spending time with her twin daughters and enjoys running when she has the chance.

GEMMA WADDELL

Gemma joined the firm in 2020 having practiced for 14 years in successful litigation firms in Glasgow. Gemma has significant experience in dealing with family law, civil litigation and adults with incapacity work. She has dealt with complex, unusual and contentious cases and appears in court on a regular basis. Gemma prides herself on her organised and approachable manner and she has a track record of providing positive outcomes for her clients

Gemma is one of the first solicitors in Scotland to complete the Law Society’s certification course in trauma-informed practice and she is now a certified specialist. She has extensive experience of assisting clients who have suffered trauma, including domestic abuse.

In her spare time, Gemma enjoys going to the gym, horse riding and walking in the Scottish countryside.

LAURA CRAWFORD

Laura joined A C White in April 2015, having completed her Traineeship in Renfrew. She was appointed Associate in July 2017 and thereafter became a partner with the firm in February 2023.

Laura deals with all aspects of residential and commercial conveyancing, preparation of wills, continuing and welfare powers of attorney and administration of estates. She is enthusiastic and dedicated to her work. Laura is known for successfully navigating her clients through stressful matters with a pleasant and friendly manner.

Outside of the office, Laura enjoys nothing more than spending time with her husband, young daughter and Hamish the Jack Russell.

DAVID PAUL MITCHELL

David has been with A C White since 2006 concentrating on Conveyancing and Executry work after having worked previously in general legal practice in Ayr.

He graduated from Glasgow University more years ago than he cares to remember, but it was certainly in a time before keyboard and tech skills were as valued as they are now. He has striven to keep up with the march of time in this regard and can now type with something upward of two fingers (though not many more!).

He has provided services in domestic and commercial conveyancing for individuals, companies, and developers together with leasing arrangements for both landlord and tenants.

He continues with the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney, estate planning and Executry administration.

In his spare time, he can be found trying to wrestle a tune out of a set of bagpipes, hill-walking or trying not to fall off his electric bicycle!
